EYS 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher Training Program
with Jill Blumenstock E-RYT

This training has opened me up to the possibilities of life. It has freed me from my life long battle with anxiety and has given me a purpose for my life after raising my children. I now believe I will live out my life in a healthy, positive, joyful and inspired way. I feel like I have reached the mountain top and can see the vast landscape beyond. Yoga will sustain me as a lifelong pursuit.-Mary

In many ways, I am a new person after completing my teacher training. Jill Blumenstock has a wealth of knowledge about the practice of yoga, and I am so grateful for the caring and conscientious manner in which she has shared that knowledge with me and the other students in teacher training. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from Jill. - Amy

This training is perfect for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the study and practice of yoga and/or learn how to serve others using the tools of this transformational path. The beginning of the training is combined with the Level 1 training and later expands on the foundations of the Level 1 intensive by covering more advanced postures, and delving more deeply into every topic including: pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy and physiology, and other styles of yoga. Our hope is that you will develop a strong personal yoga practice and an authentic voice so that you can teach yoga from your heart.

What makes our program special? Our vision.

  • A Principle-based Approach: Our goal is to make learning how to teach poses easy and systematic by using principles that point out the common alignment cues that apply to all poses in a category. These same principles can then apply to poses outside the scope of this training giving you the tools to incorporate new poses into your classes over time.

  • A Practical Approach: In addition to covering many yoga techniques and philosophy, we will place special emphasis on how these practices can apply, enhance, and transform your everyday life and those of your students. You will be able to use what you learn.

  • An Authentic Approach: We believe that excellent teaching comes from practice and life. In this training, you will be given the tools to deepen your understanding of yoga, cultivate a daily home practice and live your yoga.

  • A Supportive Approach: We want to enhance and support your personal journey- whether you decide to teach or not.

  • A Fun approach!!! We hope to make learning all aspects of yoga fun by playing teaching games, providing intriguing questions for self-exploration in journaling, suggesting homework assignments that you’ll want to do, and making learning asana and anatomy more interactive by practicing, observing other people’s poses and teaching each other.

With more than 200 hours of in class time this training will include:

  • How to practice and teach yoga techniques:

    • Learn how to teach over 70 asanas including variations, modifications, use of props, adjustments and common misalignments.

    • Pranayama and kriya techniques focusing on the benefits and real world applications and in depth anatomy of the breath.

    • Meditation practices from various cultures and disciplines and most importantlywhat is the purpose of meditation and how it can enhance your life.

    • Relaxation techniques and the physiology of relaxation.

    • The Power of Sound- chanting, mantra, Sanskrit.

  • Learn how to practice at home and integrate the 8 limbs of yoga into your life

  • Study Yoga Philosophy to see how it can apply to and improve everyday life: including the 8 limbs of yoga, the history of yoga, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and the Bhagavad Gita

  • Advice on how to be a student and a teacher: ethics, lifestyle, learning and teaching styles.

  • Anatomy and Physiology including how and why yoga works, deep exploration of the anatomy of breath, yoga therapeutics, and practical knowledge you can use in class.

  • The anatomy and physiology of the energy body: the chakra system.

  • The Art of teaching: principles of sequencing/class planning, demonstration, voice and language, observing bodies and adjusting (verbal and manual)

  • How to open and close a class: centering, warm ups.

  • How to teach yoga to special populations: Pre and Post natal yoga, beginners, kids and seniors.

  • The Business of Yoga.

  • Guidance on what to do after you have completed your training: further study, how tokeep growing etc.

  • Introduction to other styles of yoga: Yin, Restorative, Partner Yoga, Thai Yoga Massage. Journaling and homework exercises to help you develop confidence and teaching skills slowly over time.

  • The opportunity to observe and assist with classes.

  • Lots of teaching practice and valuable feedback in a supportive community of friends. Accessible teachers who love to help!

Additional features and options with our 200 hour program

This year, we want to give everyone the opportunity to become a yoga teacher- no matter what your schedule is.

  1. The 200 hour yoga teacher training schedule is very flexible and missed classes can easily be made up, because all of the information is contained in our thorough and detailed manual. If you have to miss more than 4 weekends or if you work on weekends, contact Jill to see if we can create an alternative plan for you.

  2. This year, we are offering the option for you to take this training over two years. This is a great option for those who have busy schedules and less time to devote to the training, but would still like to begin the journey. Students in the two year program would participate in half the weekends this year and half next year. They would then teach their final class in May 2013.

  3. Combine the 30 hour Beginner Yoga Teacher Training with the Mentorship Program. If after taking the 30 hour training you would like to continue your training but without doing the full 200 hour, you can work with Jill one on one to create a study program designed just for you. This will involve private mentoring sessions with Jill, assigned homework and readings, group practice teaching sessions, and taking segments of the 200 hour Teacher Training program that interest you. For more information click here for the Mentorship Program.

If you are interested in any of these approaches, please contact Jill for more information. Jill will work with you one on one to create a plan that works with your schedule and lifestyle. You can email gregg@experienceyogastudios.com or call the studio for Jill's contact information or talk to Jill in a teacher training info session or after one of her classes.

40 Hour Mentorship Program

What happens after you’ve completed your yoga training? How do you keep learning and improving as a teacher? How do you navigate the vast world of yoga? After taking her first teacher training, Jill found herself wanting more. She designed her own continuing education process by taking workshops, reading books, and teaching as much as she could so that she could become the best teacher she could be. After taking two full 200 hour trainings, a mentorship, and many teaching workshops from a variety of teachers, she compiled all of the information into a strategy that she could use to keep growing as a teacher. She would love to share with you what she learned and guide you through the process of developing your own method of continuing yoga and life education that fits your life style.

This program is for any yoga teacher (whether they did a weekend course, a 30 hour training or a 200/500 hour training, or have been teaching for years) who wants to practice and improve their teaching skills, become a part of a yoga teacher community, and learn more about yoga. You will work one on one with Jill to create a yoga curriculum specifically designed for you.

In this program, you will be able to:

1.       Study yoga subjects that you choose. You get to decide what yoga topics you would like to explore- whether it’s philosophy, meditation, pranayama, alignment, anatomy and therapeutics, Ayurveda, chanting, teaching restorative yoga or yoga nidra, acupressure and yoga, and more. Then Jill will teach you what she knows about that area of study and give you homework, readings, and teaching exercises to help you grow in understanding.

2.       Build teaching skills that you wish to learn. Do you want to learn how to do hands on adjustments in class? Or learn new sequencing strategies? Or marketing strategies? You will work with Jill to develop any teaching techniques that you wish to develop. Jill will also take/observe you class and help you assess what teaching skills would enhance your classes the most. She’ll give you specific teaching exercises and readings for homework as well as valuable feedback in one on one teaching and group teaching. She will continue to guide you step by step through the process of becoming a better teacher over the next 6 months.

3.       Learn teaching exercises and strategies for lifelong learning and growth. In this program, you will learn specific exercises and drills that you can do for the rest of your life to continue to improve your teaching. Jill will also help you decide what teachers, books, and resources will appeal to you and help you grow the most.

4.       Get valuable feedback and direction. This is probably the most important and valuable part of the training. Sometimes the only way to see yourself clearly and grow is to have someone be a mirror for you- to show you the amazing gifts and talents you have as well as what you could work on. In this program, Jill will help guide you on your particular path and help you figure out what is the next step for you. You will also get compassionate, constructive feedback through group teaching, private mentoring sessions, and having Jill assisting/observing your classes.

5.       Become a part of a loving community of yoga teachers. Once or twice a month, all of the participants in the mentorship program will meet for group yoga practices, discussion, and teaching practice with Jill. Also, if a group of students within the program share a particular interest, Jill will organize meetings in small groups. The group will also stay connected through a group blog and/or email conversations to share tips and teaching dilemmas.

The 40 hour Mentorship program is ongoing- you can sign up at anytime.
It lasts for 6 months from the day you start and includes:

  • Six 4 hour monthly group meetings for a group yoga practice, discussion, and teaching practice.

  • 16 hours of one on one time with Jill. How this time is spent is up to you! This includes:

  • A meeting when you first begin the program in which we design your curriculum for the next 6 months.

  • A final meeting where Jill helps you figure out a process for continuing education and what to do next.

  • If you would like to spend more than 16 hours with Jill privately, more time can be purchased at a special rate.

  • Weekly emails to the group with teaching tips and exercises to focus on each week. At the end of 6 months, you will have a variety of exercises to help you grow as a teacher that you can use for the rest of your life.

  • Access to a group blog to exchange tips and resources.

You can sign up at any time and you can take the mentorship program as many times as you want!
The program officially begins in October 2011.
Cost is $595
