How Yoga Works: Learning how to heal and take care of yourself with yoga

We all know how great yoga makes us feel. But how does it do it? How does yoga heal and how does yoga lead to radiant physical and emotional health? When we understand how yoga works on the physical body, our organ systems, and our energy, then we can use yoga poses and practices to take care of ourselves and heal ourselves physically and emotionally. This gives you the ability to take charge of your own health and happiness!

Ever since Jill left medical school to promote health through yoga, she has focused on finding ways that yoga can heal. She has combined her understanding of Western medicine with her study of other ways of healing, such as yoga therapy, Chakra cleansing, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupressure, and Ayurveda (the medicine of yoga). Now in this workshop series, she shares what she has learned about healing through yoga with you. Each week, we will study one of these healing modalities and how they work. Then, we will explore how we can use yoga poses to heal in these ways. You will learn practical ways to prevent injuries, heal, and cultivate profound well-being.

The yoga practices we will be doing are gentle and suitable for all levels- including beginners.  If you have an injury or illness, please come to learn ways of modifying your yoga practice and strategies for healing.

Living Your Yoga: Cultivating a Home Practice
with Jill Blumenstock, RYT

The practice of yoga doesn’t end when we step off the mat. We carry the joy and peace we find in yoga with us into the world and in doing so we affect everyone we come in contact with. The more we can infuse the practice of yoga into our everyday lives, the more we can transform ourselves and our world. We can enhance this transformation through a daily home practice. This workshop will not only teach you how to start a home practice step by step, but also how to progress, deepen, and reinvigorate your existing practice. We will explore some of the challenges and joys of practicing yoga at home as well as learn techniques to keep your home practice fun and inspiring. In this workshop, you will learn how to choose and sequence poses, how to weave in new poses, how to match your practice to the cycles of your day, mood, aches and pains and more. You will also leave with a few 20 minute sequences to kickstart your home practice as well as ideas on how to learn and practice other aspects of yoga, such as the yamas and niyamas, pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation. We will be practicing some gentle yoga so come prepared to move.

                           Yin & Tarot
with Jill Blumenstock
Becoming more Present to Glimpse the Future

Sunday Jan 29, Mar 25, Friday June 29th
7:30 to 9:00

cost $20 pre-registered or $25 night of class

Life, much like yoga, is a journey. No matter what the specifics are in our individual journey, the steps and lessons we have to learn seem to be universal. We all start as a Fool- innocent, open and unknowing-and after many ups and downs, we end up at Completion/The World- fulfilled, whole. This journey repeats in our life over and over again in the many aspects of our life-love, work, friendship, spirituality. The Tarot Cards depicts the stages of this universal journey and traces the normal progression of a truly holy life. They tell you where you are along the journey or if you have strayed.

In this class, you will practice gentle Yin and Restorative yoga, while waking up your intuition using meditations and visualizations to make your readings more potent. Then each person will receive a 4-5 card reading using either a Love Tarot deck which gives insight into relationships or a Zen Tarot Deck which points to your future trajectory not by predicting the future but by helping you understand the attitudes and beliefs buried in your current circumstances.  You can ask for clarity on a specific question or you can leave it more open-ended.

*Due to time constraints, this class is limited to 6 participants. If there is demand, more classes will be added. More extensive, private or small group readings with yoga are available as a private yoga session. See Gregg or Jill for more details.

Restorative Yoga
with Jill Blumenstock, RYT

Come melt in this blissful class. Restorative yoga uses passive poses in which props are used to place the body in comfortable, completely supported positions. You simply let go and let the props open you up. Practicing in this relaxing, supportive way enables you to restore your energy, let go of deeply held tension, and take a journey inward towards the peace and stillness that lies at the core of you.  It’s like practicing Savasana for an hour and a half! This practice relieves the signs and symptoms of stress, strengthens the immune system, and provides you with a blissful experience of your innate vitality and ability to heal. It is therefore beneficial for all yoga students needing a more gentle yoga experience, students healing from an injury, or those looking to deeply relax and de-stress. No experience required.

Yoga Nidra (A Guided Savasana)

Learn to practice the art of relaxing and explore how it can change your life.
In this one hour guided savasana, we will explore, relax, and rejuvenate each layer of ourselves until we reach and experience the very core of who we are. During this deep relaxation, our brain waves settle into an alpha wave pattern, which gives us the opportunity to change the way our brain is wired. We will then use an affirmation known as a sankalpa to reprogram our subconscious and manifest profound changes in our lives. It is an amazing experience.
